La Siciliana
Until now, all of my collections have been inspired by my adopted home, Spain. This time I´m taking you across the turquoise seas of the Meditteranean to Sicily, Italy. After watching season 2 of the White Lotus I had a deep urge to go to Sicily so off I went last Summer to meet one of my best friends there for a few days and visit a family in Cantania who locally handmake stunning little ceramics that capture Sicily beautifully. While I savoured the gelato their mum bought for me I knew I was on to something perfectly Sicilian. La Siciliana was born.
I felt instantly at home in Sicily, maybe it was the takeaway Campari Spritzes on every corner or that sultry humid breeze that reminded me of Brisbane. The history there was immense, dating so far back it was hard to get my head around. I loved all of the myths like the ceramic Sicilian Head Pots story. A story of passion and revenge.
The landscapes were stunning with the rocks and lava spilling into the sparkling sea, always with Mt Etna huffing and puffing in the background. I spent the days huddled under an umbrella with my friend solving the world´s mysteries while cooling ourselves down in the crystal clear seas. We explored the cobble stone streets and made daily trips to the supermarket, my happy place. I have never been anywhere where the food tasted so damn good. The Prosecco was above and beyond and we made lavish picnics for the beach and the lingering sunsets.
My dream is to have a little apartment on the water in a village where I´ll be greeted with Ciao Bella day-in-day-out. Like the Spanish, the Italians know how to live and their positive language and larger than life hand gestures make you feel like you are really living. I hope this collection tickles your Sicilian fancy or is a souvenir that perfectly captures your experience there.
With love from Spain,
